Questions are good!
Here are some answers to a few …..

Sessions are usually £58. The free initial chat is exactly that — free, with no obligation. Please ask about concessions if you need to. It's a normal question. I set my fee based on my own needs - and am aware therapy can be inaccessible because of cost. I'm happy to talk about this with you.

Both. I usually work face-to-face, and I sometimes offer online counselling. That might be for the whole time we work together, or on occasional weeks when meeting in person isn't possible. When we talk, we would consider working online if that’s what you prefer, to see what’s best for each of us.

Sessions are usually 50 minutes (sometimes, this is called a ‘counselling hour’! I generally suggest meeting weekly, especially to begin with, and am often happy to meet fortnightly. There needs to be a commitment, and enough continuity to build trust and momentum, and we might talk about safety as well. This is something we agree together, not something fixed in advance. Clients usually pay for one session at a time.

There's usually no set number, although sometimes I do agree a fixed term - particularly with younger clients. I don’t expect adults to commit to a course of sessions. I work in an open-ended way: once we agree to work together, I hold a regular slot for you. We commit to that and keep it under review as we go. Some people come for a few sessions around a specific issue; others stay much longer. What's best often becomes clear over time, and we will work with that.

It's a short, informal conversation — usually by phone but if that doesn’t work for you, we could do video call. You might tell me a little about what's bringing you to counselling (although I am not yet your therapist, so there’s no pressure), you can ask me anything you'd like to and get a feel for what it is like talking to me. We’d also check our schedules align! There's no pressure to book anything afterwards.

That's an important thing to notice, and I hope you’ll feel able to tell me if it comes up. If something isn't working for you, we can talk about it. There can be lots of reasons counselling feels like it’s not working, and sometimes it is time to end the work, which you are free to do. I'm happy to help you think about other options, if you’d like to.

It means the person’s training incorporated several counselling approaches, rather than just one. I respond to you and try to draw on what fits. I also try to integrate things we are noticing and learning, as we do the work together. Every client is unique - and I'm happy to talk through in more detail what this might look like. Please feel free to ask more.

I work with adults of all ages, young people and children. I like working with people in my community around North Sheffield (S35 — Ecclesfield, Chapeltown, High Green, Burncross, Parson Cross) and also work in central Sheffield (S1). I’m close to parts of Barnsley and Rotherham. Online working can make me accessible, wherever you are - and this might be particularly useful if you’re drawn to my areas of particular interest but live further afield.
